Roosevelt @GW Diversity Equity and Inclusion Statement

We are strongly committed to co-creating and maintaining an environment that affirms diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. We will not tolerate discrimination in any form. Whether it be sexism, heterosexism, transphobia, racism, xenophobia, classism, ageism, or ableism, it is not welcome. We seek to raise awareness that vicious systems of oppression have long permeated our society, institutions, and college campuses. That numerous people today still encounter social, economic, and interpersonal hurdles based on gender, sexuality, skin color, ethnic background, immigration status, socioeconomic status, age, education, ability, or other factors. Through our focus on advocacy and policy, we seek to promote action that will allow all of us to live our lives with dignity and respect, regardless of where we come from, live, how we look, or what we cherish. We are determined to work alongside oppressed communities to help identify effective and just solutions that lift all of us. We strongly believe that “who writes the rules matters.” That policy must be written and understood through an intersectional lens that directly acknowledges long-standing and intertwined histories of oppression. Furthermore, we strive to foster actions that improve our collective ability to engage in civil exchanges that bridge our diverse backgrounds, our ways of living and thinking, our interests, and our shared humanity
